Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticized the statement made by opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroğlu, accusing him of claiming that Russia is leading the elections in Turkey.
Erdogan called the statement "shameful" and suggested that Kilicdaroğlu was trying to stop the country's progress and the achievement of "Turkey's 100th Anniversary" goals. He drew attention to Western media outlets that support the opposition and said he has 20 years of experience in dealing with foreign countries.
Meanwhile, Kilicdaroğlu accused Russia of a conspiracy, alleging that they were responsible for spreading false information and recordings in Turkey. He demanded that Russia "keeps off its hands" and keep away from Turkey to maintain friendly relations.
Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14, and the second round will be held on May 28 if none of the presidential candidates receives 50% of the votes.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied any interference in Turkey's presidential election, saying that Russia values its relationship with Turkey and does not interfere in other countries internal affairs.
