Amid global sanctions administered on Russia as a result of its war in Ukraine, Germany's sale of specific items to CIS nations has more than quadrupled. Exports to Tajikistan (150%), Belarus (77%), and Kyrgyzstan (994%) grew significantly in 2022 compared to 2021, Bild reports referring to the German Federal Statistical Office.

These numbers imply that Germany is providing items to Russia via parallel import in order to avoid sanctions. Chemical product exports to Kazakhstan, for example, increased by 129%, while exports to Armenia increased by 110%. Similarly, German electrical products deliveries to Armenia and Uzbekistan climbed by 344% and 105%, respectively. Furthermore, the export of metal items to Kazakhstan (137%) and clothes (88%) increased.
According to the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, automotive and replacement parts exports from Germany to Kazakhstan ramped up by 507% in 2022, and to Armenia by 761%.
The European Union's special delegate on sanctions, David O'Sullivan, is said to be concerned about the increase in German exports to CIS nations.
