Uzbekistan has recently introduced a new labor code, which boasts 581 articles spread over seven sections and 34 chapters, media reports. The Ministry of Justice has noted that the updated code version is designed to ensure equal labor rights, prevent discrimination in employment and occupation, uphold workers' rights, and eradicate forced labor.
Notable changes include the removal of wages in kind, increasing severance pay to 200% of average monthly earnings, and introducing a basic leave entitlement of 21 calendar days per year.
Employees may also be granted additional leave with partial pay. Women may receive additional leave for antenatal care. Changes were also made to pay, the length of the preliminary recruitment test, and the conditions of employment.
