The only foreign leader expected to be present at the Victory Day festivities in Moscow is Kyrgyzstan's President Sadir Japarov, "Vedomosti" reports.
Japarov was invited by Alexey Overchuk, the Kremlin's Deputy Prime Minister in charge of foreign affairs. Japarov will attend celebrations and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit around May 9.
The Kremlin chose not to invite foreign leaders to the Victory Day events in Moscow in 2022, referring to the non-anniversary year. Meanwhile, in 2021, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahman was the only foreign president to participate, while in 2020, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was one of the leaders of various nations that attended the procession in Moscow.
The annual Victory Day march will not take place on May 9, 2023, in various parts of Russia owing to security concerns. Furthermore, this year's "Immortal Regiment" procession will not be held in Moscow.
