The Ministry of Energy announced that it might restore the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan. From January 14, 2023, due to a sharp drop in temperature in Uzbekistan, which caused a series of problems with fuel supply in thermal power plants, power delivery to Afghanistan was temporarily suspended.
The Energy Organization of Afghanistan had been warned about this force majeure situation. Now it is planned to resume the supply of electricity to this country from January 25.
'Electricity produced in Uzbekistan and intended for domestic consumption is not exported. As a part of an intergovernmental agreement on the electricity trade, Afghanistan will start receiving electricity again,' the Ministry of Energy explained.
Due to the continuing shortage of electricity in Kabul city and regions of Afghanistan, the "Taliban" turned to Uzbekistan and asked Uzbekistan to sell electricity in accordance with the terms stipulated in the agreement. Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban, Amir Khan Mutaqqi, at the opening of the Afghanistan Agricultural Development Fund in Kabul, expressed hope that the Uzbek government would fulfill its promises in accordance with the contract signed with the Afghan Electricity Company.
