Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Monday (January 16) instructed the State Security Service (SSS) and the Prosecutor General's Office to probe into the activities of the sacked officials.
On the same day, Tashkent City Mayor Jakhongir Artykhodjaev, Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev, and the chief of Issiklik Electricity Stations Farhad Abdurakhmanov were dismissed from their positions.
As many as 192 corruption cases were detected in the oil and gas and energy sectors over the past month. Besides, authorities descried 5,000 illegal electricity and 4,500 natural gas connections.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the State Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office to take measures aimed at tackling corruption in the energy supply system.
