The German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) is set to introduce career guidance measures in Uzbekistan's schools, with a focus on active employer involvement. The initiative was announced on September 18 during a stakeholders' meeting held in Tashkent, part of GIZ's TexVET Career Project.
The event brought together representatives from education ministries, international organizations, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, sectoral associations, and both state and private companies across various industries. Attendees emphasized the importance of early career guidance for students, focusing on the development of a comprehensive system to provide career advice and support.
"Since December 2023, as part of the TexVET Career project, we have developed 13 career guidance measures in collaboration with general education and vocational schools in cities like Nukus, Karshi, Samarkand, Margilan, and Tashkent," said Tea Siprashvili, a representative from Integration, the company implementing the project on behalf of GIZ. "These measures, designed by both German and local experts, aim to spark young people's interest in various professions and offer them career guidance."
Key components of the program include organized field trips to companies, inviting industry representatives to schools, and creating career centers equipped with online courses and virtual reality technologies. Siprashvili emphasized that employer cooperation, particularly from the private sector, is crucial for the success of these initiatives.
In line with this, companies such as Safia Confectionery, BYD Megawatt, Uzbekistan Beverages Association, and Denta Fill Pharmaceutical Company signed cooperation memorandums with educational institutions aimed at supporting career guidance efforts.
During the event, panel discussions highlighted research from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which underscores the positive impact of career guidance activities on young people's employment prospects.
The TexVET project is seen as a step forward in career guidance, offering new opportunities for Uzbekistan's youth. The project team also revealed upcoming plans for a national information campaign in the next few months, aimed at increasing awareness and improving the image of career guidance and vocational education.
