Brazil has begun decoding the black boxes of the Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), which tragically crashed on December 25 near the Kazakh city of Aktau, reports Interfax.
The analysis is being conducted by experts from the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira, FAB). Once processed, the data will be handed over to Kazakhstan’s Aviation Incident Investigation Authority, which is leading the investigation into the disaster.
Details of the Crash
The plane, Flight J2-8243, was en route from Baku to Grozny when the crash occurred. Among the 67 people on board were:
•42 citizens of Azerbaijan,
•16 citizens of Russia,
•6 citizens of Kazakhstan, and
•3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
The incident claimed 38 lives, leaving 29 survivors.
International Collaboration in the Investigation
Kazakhstan has enlisted the support of global aviation experts to uncover the cause of the crash. Collaborating parties include:
•The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),
•Brazil’s Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA),
•The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), and
•Embraer, the aircraft’s manufacturer.
The black boxes were sent to CENIPA for analysis on December 30. The results are expected to provide critical insights into the events leading up to the crash, aiding efforts to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
