Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia reached $24.2bn for the first 11M24, with both countries aiming to increase this figure to $30bn. This goal was central to the discussions between Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, who met in Astana to explore ways to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation across key sectors, including agriculture, energy, industrial projects, and transportation. Both sides agreed on the need to diversify the range of goods exchanged and to further strengthen ties in industrial collaboration, with 99 Kazakh-Russian projects worth $18.6bn already in progress.
The agricultural trade between the two countries has seen positive growth, with a 5% increase in turnover in the first 10 months of 2024, reaching over $3.2bn. The successful implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Program for 2021-2025 was also highlighted, with plans to develop an updated version for the coming period.
Kazakhstan's transit transport infrastructure continues to expand, with a focus on improving road, rail, and water transport routes to facilitate smoother trade flows.
"Thanks to the leadership of President Tokayev and President Putin, our bilateral cooperation has reached new heights. The government of Kazakhstan is committed to ensuring the practical implementation of all agreements and further developing our cooperation," Prime Minister Bektenov emphasized the progress achieved so far.
Mikhail Mishustin reaffirmed Russia's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Kazakhstan, emphasizing that the relationship is built on mutual respect and shared interests, and that both governments are responsible for fully implementing the agreements made by their leaders.
