Uzbekistan has five grandmasters ranked in the top 100 of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) January rankings, as per to the latest update released by FIDE.
The global ranking continues to be led by Norway’s Magnus Carlsen with 2,840 points, followed by the United States’ Hikaru Nakamura (2,810 points) and Fabiano Caruana (2,795 points). Other players in the top 10 include Vincent Keymer, Arjun Erigaisi, Anish Giri, Alireza Firouzja, Praggnananda, Gukesh Dommaraju, and Wei Li.
Uzbekistan’s top-ranked player, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, holds 2,751 points, placing him 12th in the FIDE world rankings. Abdusattorov is currently competing in the Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. After 12 rounds in the Masters group, he is leading the tournament with eight points. Completion of the tournament is projected to elevate him to 5th place in the FIDE rankings.
Javohir Sindarov, Uzbekistan’s second-ranked grandmaster, has moved up one position to 20th in the FIDE rankings, despite a three-point decrease to 2,726 points. Sindorov is also participating in the Tata Steel Chess tournament, where he is in second place with 7.5 points. His expected post-tournament ranking is likely to improve to 14th position.
Nodirbek Yakubboyev remains in 36th place with 2,691 points. Rustam Qosimjonov advanced from 51st to 48th place with 2,668 points, while Shamsiddin Vokhidov moved from 85th to 79th place with 2,644 points. According to the FIDE team ranking, the Uzbekistan Chess Federation is in 12th place with 2,606 points.
In the FIDE women’s rankings, Uzbekistan has two players in the top 100. Sixteen-year-old Afruza Hamdamova is ranked 40th with 2,403 points, and Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova is ranked 81st with 2,363 points. The Uzbekistan women’s national team is positioned 15th in the FIDE team rating with 2,258 points.
