Qatar's Nebras Power and Japan's Sojitz Corporation are embarking on a significant renewable energy venture in Uzbekistan's Navoi region, aiming to construct a 1 GW wind power plant, the Ministry of Economy and Finance's press service has confirmed.
On May 6, discussions regarding forthcoming projects in the renewable energy sector took place between Temur Malik Narzikulov, the director of the Center for Green Economy Projects under the Ministry of Economic Finance, and representatives from Nebras Power and Sojitz Corporation.
The collaborative effort intends to establish a wind farm with a collective capacity of 1 GW in the Navoi region. This project will be facilitated through a joint lending mechanism, operating under the framework of an agreement between Uzbekistan and Japan.
Moreover, the foreign companies involved plan to capitalize on the sale of carbon units (quotas) generated from the implementation of this green energy endeavor. Looking ahead, the Uzbekistani government aims to develop a national strategy in alignment with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
