Kazakhstan has secured the 52nd position in the World Economic Forum's 2024 Travel and Tourism (T&T) Development Index, marking an ascent of six places since 2019.
The latest rankings reveal Kazakhstan's steady progress in the global travel and tourism landscape, reflecting improvements in various sectors related to the industry. With a score of 4.07 out of 7, Kazakhstan has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing its tourism infrastructure and offerings, contributing to its rise in the rankings.
Despite the commendable advancement, the leadership positions in the ranking remained largely unchanged. The United States retained its top position, followed closely by Spain and Japan in second and third place, respectively. France and Australia rounded off the top five positions, showcasing the enduring appeal of these destinations to travelers worldwide.
Interestingly, some shifts occurred within the top 10 rankings. Germany, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland experienced slight declines, moving one, three, and two positions lower, respectively. Conversely, France, Australia, China, and Italy saw improvements, climbing two, one, and three positions, respectively.
In the Central Asian region, Kazakhstan emerged as a frontrunner, outpacing its neighboring countries in the T&T development index. Uzbekistan secured the 78th position, Tajikistan followed at 99th, and Kyrgyzstan trailed slightly further behind at 102nd.
Among its regional counterparts, Kazakhstan found itself in close proximity to Costa Rica, which claimed the 51st spot, and Qatar, which secured the 53rd position.
In 2023, Kazakhstan experienced surge in foreign tourism, with over 1 mn international visitors recorded, reflecting a substantial 17% increase from the previous year's figure of 928,000. Concurrently, domestic tourism also witnessed an upswing, with a reported growth of 647,000 visitors compared to 2022. The total number of domestic tourists in 2023 reached 7.5 mn, indicating a significant rise of 1.7 mn compared to figures from 2019.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan observed a rise in foreign visitors for commercial purposes during the first two months of 2024, with 16,900 international guests recorded. This marked an increase of 11,500 individuals from the same period in the previous year, representing a threefold rise.
