Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation led by Mohammad Abunayyan, head of ACWA Power, to discuss expanding cooperation and accelerating joint projects in Uzbekistan.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Asian Development Bank’s Board of Governors meeting and focused on strengthening partnership ties, particularly in the field of green energy.
The Uzbek president highlighted ACWA Power’s role as a key partner in the country’s renewable energy transition, noting that recently launched solar and wind power projects are being implemented steadily and in line with agreed plans.
The sides also explored new areas of cooperation, including the construction of the “New Tashkent” international airport, the development of a multidisciplinary medical facility in Fergana, and the launch of a modern data center within an IT park.
ACWA Power representatives earlier expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan’s reform agenda and investment climate.
As noted by Ahsen Saeed, the company’s regional financial director,“Uzbekistan’s strong political will to transform the energy sector and its openness to foreign investment significantly strengthen investor confidence.”
He added that the company is implementing large-scale projects aligned with the country’s development strategy, including 6 GW of renewable energy capacity and 2.4 GW of energy storage systems, alongside a 1.5 GW thermal power plant designed to significantly reduce gas consumption and emissions.
Projects are being rolled out across both central and remote regions, including a major wind power initiative in Karakalpakstan, aimed at supporting regional economic development.
In addition, social initiatives are underway, including rooftop solar panel installations and energy storage systems for vulnerable households, developed in cooperation with national energy authorities.
