The number of enterprises and organizations operating in Uzbekistan has fallen by approximately 115,000 over the past three years, according to data released by the Statistics Committee.
As of November 1, 2025, a total of 465,900 enterprises and organizations were active in the country, marking the lowest figure in the past five years. By comparison, there were 540,100 enterprises in 2021 and 581,000 in 2022. In November 2023, the number stood at 490,400, while November 2024 recorded 469,400.
Small businesses constitute the majority, accounting for over 80 percent of all enterprises.
Regional Distribution
Tashkent hosts the largest share of enterprises, with 106,900 operating in the capital city, nearly a quarter of the country’s total. Other regions have significantly fewer enterprises. Tashkent region follows with 45,200 (9.7%), and Samarkand ranks third with 40,100 (8.6%). Syrdarya has the fewest, with only 11,800 enterprises.
Foreign investment is also concentrated in Tashkent, which accounts for 63.7 percent of enterprises with foreign capital. Among other regions, Tashkent (12.8%), Samarkand (3.7%), and Fergana (3.4 percent) have notable shares.
Leading Industries
Trade dominates the business landscape, with 151,400 enterprises (32.5%) operating in this sector. Industry follows with 58,500 enterprises (12.6%), and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries account for 33,800 (7.3%). Construction and accommodation & food services each represent 6.4% of total enterprises.
Among 399,800 registered enterprises, 313,000 (78.3%) operate as limited liability companies, while 17,600 have foreign investment. The number of foreign-invested enterprises grew by 2,300 (15%) over the past year, largely in trade, industry, and construction sectors. China remains the leading investor, with 4,700 enterprises operating in Uzbekistan.
