Abdul Salam Hanafi, Administrative Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, visited Uzbekistan, holding meetings with Uzbek officials to discuss enhanced cooperation in political, economic, and cultural sectors. The visit included separate discussions with Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, TOLONews reports.
During the meeting with Jamshid Khodjaev, Hanafi emphasized the Islamic Emirate's interest in strengthening ties with Uzbekistan. Khodjaev highlighted Uzbekistan's readiness to facilitate investments in Afghanistan, particularly in mining operations, and underscored the importance of the Trans-Afghan railway project. This project is expected to benefit the economies of Afghanistan and the broader region.
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, stated that the discussions also covered expanding trade and transit cooperation. The two sides noted the importance of the Trans-Afghan railway project for improving connectivity and fostering regional economic growth.
The Chamber of Commerce and Investment described the visit as a positive step for improving trade and transit relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Spokesperson Jan Agha Nawid noted that the two countries have signed multiple agreements, with trade volume exceeding $2bn.
Economic analyst Zabihullah Islami pointed out that growing trade relations signal stability and credibility in Afghanistan, encouraging foreign investment. He emphasized the need to maintain security to attract further investors.
Hanafi also met Shaykh Nuriddin Kholiknazarov, head of the Muslim Board and Grand Mufti of Uzbekistan. Both parties discussed the role of religious and cultural ties in fostering stronger bilateral relations and mutual benefits.
