Kazakhstan and South Korea have taken a step toward advancing the Alatau Smart City project with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev met with Kim Bok-hwan, President and CEO of the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), in Astana.
The meeting followed earlier negotiations held in October in Seoul during the “Alatau Rise with Kazakhstan” roadshow, where Alatau Smart City was presented as a strategically important national project.
“Many Korean companies have expressed interest in our Alatau Smart City project, which we sincerely welcome. KIND could participate in infrastructure construction projects, including energy, water supply, water treatment, wastewater recycling, drainage, and municipal solid waste processing – both under EPC contracts and in a development format,” Bozumbayev said.
The discussions also covered potential cooperation in logistics and port infrastructure projects. Considering the wide range of opportunities for collaboration, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that KIND explore the possibility of opening a corporation office in Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, an MoU on the Alatau Smart City Development Corporation was signed by the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Fund Alatau City Authority, and KIND.
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support the development of one of Kazakhstan’s most ambitious smart city initiatives.
