Uzbekistan’s gold and foreign currency reserves surpassed $77bn for the first time, reaching $77.08bn as of March 1, 2026, according to data published by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

The reserves increased by about $2bn over the past month and have grown by more than 16.2% since the beginning of the year, reflecting rising gold prices and an increase in the country’s precious metal holdings.

Gold remains the dominant component of Uzbekistan’s reserves. The value of gold assets rose for the eighth consecutive month, reaching $67.67bn, up more than $2.69bn compared with the previous month.

The growth was partly driven by global gold prices, which increased during the month from $5,063.45 to $5,174.10 per ounce, contributing approximately $1.4bn to the overall rise in reserves.

The physical volume of gold in Uzbekistan’s reserves also expanded, increasing from 12.8mn to 13.1mn troy ounces.

Meanwhile, the country’s foreign currency reserves declined slightly to $8.83bn. Of this amount, $1.2bn is held in foreign central banks and the International Monetary Fund, while $6.09bn is deposited in foreign commercial banks.

The value of foreign securities holdings rose marginally to $1.54bn, compared with $1.536bn a month earlier.

Earlier data showed Uzbekistan’s reserves at $66.3bn in January 2026 and $75.08bn in February, indicating strong growth in the first months of the year.

According to the World Gold Council, Uzbekistan ranked 14th globally in terms of gold reserves as of March 2026.
