The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has substantially increased its support for Tajikistan, now encompassing 105 projects with a total investment of $915.5mn.
The President of IsDB and Group Chairman, Muhammad Al Jasser, stressed the Bank's unwavering commitment to Tajikistan’s development. Addressing the National Development Council (NDC) meeting chaired by President Emomali Rahmon, Al Jasser emphasized that the progress and prosperity of Tajikistan are shared victories for the IsDB.
“The success of Tajikistan is our success. IsDB’s strategic framework for Tajikistan will boost our ongoing cooperation and enhance our interventions in the country,” stated Dr. Al Jasser.
Infrastructure has received the largest share of this investment, with $532mn allocated, accounting for about 50% of the total funding. Education and agriculture have also been major focuses, receiving $150mn (16%) and US$ 136.4mn (15%) respectively.
In his speech, Al Jasser lauded the economic advancements made under President Rahmon's leadership, pointing to key initiatives like the Rogun Hydropower Dam. This project is pivotal not only for its role in green energy production and water management but also for unlocking Tajikistan’s potential in these critical areas.
“I applaud the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan to diversify the economy and enhance the role of the private sector. This is evidenced by the increased private sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product,” Al Jasser elaborated.
The NDC meeting, attended by international organization leaders, development partners, and heads of Tajik ministries and agencies, focused on reviewing the interim progress of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy, which aims for comprehensive growth by 2030.
Al Jasser highlighted the investments in green infrastructure, education, and agriculture as testimony to the enduring and robust partnership between the IsDB and Tajikistan.
“With a strategic framework to enhance cooperation and a focus on leveraging the nation's young talent, natural resources, and visionary leadership, we are dedicated to supporting Tajikistan’s crucial role in Central Asia,” Al Jasser reiterated.
