The car assembly plant jointly developed by Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is set to commence trial operations on May 28, 2024. as it was informed by Daniyor Amangeldiyev, the Minister of Economy and Trade of Kyrgyzstan, to 24.kg.
The assembly plant, situated in the Soquluq district of Chuy region, aims to manufacture a variety of vehicle brands, including Chevrolet, Daewoo, and Isuzu. The collaborative effort between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is expected to yield 12 different car models, marking a significant step in the automotive industry for both nations.
The foundation for this project was laid on January 27, 2023, during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan. An agreement was signed to cooperate on the organization of automobile and commercial vehicle production. This ambitious project is structured to unfold in three stages, each designed to incrementally increase production capacity and localization.
During the first stage, which will span the initial three years, the plant aims to produce 10,000 cars and commercial vehicles. This phase will involve 500 workers and achieve a localization rate of 5-10%. The focus will be on establishing a stable production process and reaching the target output.
In the second stage, the production goal is set to increase to 20,000 cars and commercial vehicles. The workforce will double to 1,000 people, and the localization rate will rise to 15-20%. This phase will see the plant begin producing car components in addition to assembling vehicles, significantly enhancing localization efforts by integrating more locally produced parts.
The final stage aims to maximize production, with a target of 30,000 light and commercial vehicles. The workforce will increase to 2,000 people. This expansion will further solidify the plant's role in the regional automotive industry.
