In a step towards enhancing environmental sustainability and waste management infrastructure, Uzbekistan has announced plans to construct its first waste incineration plant. The decision was solidified during a recent meeting between the Minister of Ecology, Aziz Abdukhakimov, and Bo Wang, Chairman of China CAMC Engineering.
The meeting, held on May 2 at the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, served as a platform to showcase Uzbekistan's commitment to administrative reforms, particularly in the realm of ecology and environmental protection. Minister Abdukhakimov outlined the nation's priority tasks in improving waste management systems, emphasizing the government's efforts to foster a conducive investment climate.
The Chinese delegation, led by Chairman Bo Wang, expressed keen interest in Uzbekistan's environmental initiatives and emphasized the clarity of the country's plans for waste management system enhancement and environmental industry development.
A pivotal outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan and China CAMC Engineering Co. The memorandum marks the commencement of a collaborative project to establish a waste incineration power plant in Uzbekistan.
As part of the agreement, a Chinese expert group will be dispatched to Uzbekistan to conduct a comprehensive study and initiate the design phase of the incineration plant. This collaboration underscores the mutual commitment of both nations toward sustainable waste management practices.
Beyond waste management, discussions also touched upon potential collaborations in eco-tourism development and infrastructure projects, including the exploration of constructing a cable car in the picturesque mountainous regions of the Samarkand region.
The meeting concluded with a tour of the Situation Center of the Ministry, offering the Chinese delegates insights into Uzbekistan's advanced systems for monitoring air quality, tracking waste collection and transportation equipment, and swiftly responding to environmental violations.
