Alisher Kayumov, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, presented his credentials to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore, Dunyo News Agency informed on April 30. The ceremony, held at the Istana government residence, was accompanied by a guard of honor.
During their meeting, Ambassador Kayumov and President Shanmugaratnam engaged in discussions regarding the current state and future prospects of Uzbek-Singapore cooperation. They acknowledged the positive momentum gained by bilateral relations, particularly following the high-level visits exchanged between the two countries in 2023.
President Shanmugaratnam commended Uzbekistan's ongoing reforms under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, recognizing the nation's strides in fostering a robust civil society, pursuing an open and balanced foreign policy, and achieving stable economic growth.
He also highlighted Uzbekistan's growing appeal to international businesses, including those from Singapore, evident in the upcoming Tashkent International Investment Forum, which will host a delegation from the Singapore Parliament and over 25 Singaporean companies.
Expressing his commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, President Shanmugaratnam conveyed his best wishes to the leadership and people of Uzbekistan, underscoring Singapore's readiness to support Uzbekistan's development endeavors.
Alisher Kayumov assumed his role as Ambassador to Singapore in mid-March, succeeding Kahramon Shakirov. Shakirov had served as Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Singapore from 2018 to 2024, concurrently holding the position in Australia from 2022 to 2024, with residence in Singapore.
