Uzbekistan implements measures to boost foreign language proficiency and vocational skills

Uzbekistan implements measures to boost foreign language proficiency and vocational skills

Uzbekistan is implementing measures to enhance its citizens' proficiency in foreign languages and vocational skills, the Ministry of Justice's press service reports. This initiative, outlined in a decree by the Cabinet of Ministers, involves the establishment of a specialized centre aimed at teaching foreign languages and preparing Uzbek nationals for employment opportunities abroad.

A primary objective of the newly proposed centre is to streamline the process of selecting Uzbek individuals interested in pursuing employment opportunities overseas. By collaborating with prospective employers, the centre will assist in identifying suitable candidates keen on venturing into international job markets.

Furthermore, vocational educational institutions across the nation are set to introduce courses designed to impart both vocational skills and foreign language proficiency. Among the languages scheduled for instruction are English, German, Japanese, and others in high demand.

The duration of these courses is slated for one year and will be offered on a paid basis. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their achievements and qualifications.

To ensure the effectiveness of the training programs, teachers engaged in this endeavor can anticipate receiving a monthly bonus. The magnitude of this incentive will be contingent upon the demonstrable effectiveness of the teacher's instructional methodologies.

According to Azim Akhmatov, the head of the Department of Strategic Planning and Collective Analysis of External Labor Migration, estimates suggest that approximately 2-3 mn Uzbek nationals are currently employed abroad. Akhmatov further elaborated that between 2010 and 2014, this figure experienced fluctuations, reaching up to 3-4 mn individuals during certain seasons.

The majority of Uzbek citizens seeking employment opportunities abroad find themselves working in countries such as Russia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. These nations offer a visa-free regime for Uzbek nationals, facilitating smoother migration and employment processes.

The establishment of the foreign language training centre and the expansion of vocational education signify Uzbekistan's proactive approach towards equipping its workforce with the necessary skills and language proficiency to thrive in the global job market.
