Turkmenistan's gross domestic product (GDP) grew steadily by 6.3% in the first quarter of 2024, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting.
Local television Altyn Asyr also quoted the head of state as saying that "this indicator reached 4.7% in the industrial sector, 6.6% in transport and communications, 7.6% in services, 8.2% in trade and 4.1% in agriculture".
Berdimuhamedov instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to keep a close eye on the targeted spending of budget funds and said it was important to increase oil and gas production and exports.
"The supply of food and essential goods to the country's markets and commercial outlets should be the focus of attention," the president said.
Turkmenistan exports gas mainly to China, but also to Russia and Uzbekistan. The country also exports electricity, oil products, polymers, synthetic petrol and textiles.
