A key highlight of Minister Nurbek's visit was a meeting with his counterpart, the Minister of Science and Information and Communication Technologies of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jong Ho. The meeting, held on April 1-2, 2024, served as a platform to explore avenues for collaboration between Kazakhstan and South Korea in the realms of science and technology.

Central to the discussions were the ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan's higher education and scientific sectors, which Minister Nurbek fervently conveyed to Minister Lee Jong Ho. Minister Nurbek elaborated on the directive issued by the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to establish three specialized schools dedicated to the study of artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan. Additionally, he underscored Kazakhstan's commitment to sending 500 scientists annually to renowned global universities and research institutes for internships, with a focus on engineering and technical disciplines.

Recognizing South Korea's exemplary achievements in the field of science and technology, Minister Nurbek proposed the establishment of a foreign branch of Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) in Kazakhstan. Minister Lee Jong Ho welcomed the proposal and pledged comprehensive support for the initiative, signaling a promising avenue for academic collaboration between the two nations.

In parallel, Minister Lee Jong Ho shed light on South Korea's K-cloud project, emphasizing the potential synergies that could be realized through combined scholarship programs between Kazakhstan and Korea. This proposal reflects a mutual aspiration to leverage educational exchanges for enhanced scientific outcomes.

The fruitful deliberations culminated in discussions regarding the prospective signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize and advance bilateral cooperation in the field of science. Such an agreement would serve as a cornerstone for fostering enduring partnerships and facilitating knowledge exchange between Kazakhstan and South Korea.

KAIST University stands as a beacon of innovation in the global academic landscape, renowned for its groundbreaking research and development across various engineering disciplines. Acknowledged as the most innovative university in the Asia-Pacific region, and ranked third among the world's best universities under 50 by Times Higher Education magazine, KAIST epitomizes excellence and innovation in higher education and scientific inquiry.
