The delegation of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Muzaffar Madrahimov, actively engaged in the 219th session of the UNESCO Executive Council convened in Paris on March 26-27, Dunyo reports.
Preparation for 43rd UNESCO General Conference
A key agenda item during the session was the preparation for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference scheduled to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan highlighted the progress made in readiness for the event within the framework of discussions at the council.
The decision by the government of Uzbekistan to host the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand has garnered appreciation from UNESCO management and member states. Acknowledging Uzbekistan's proactive steps, particularly the recent presidential decree outlining preparatory measures for the conference, participants expressed confidence in the successful organization of the upcoming session, drawing on the country's extensive experience in hosting international events.
Bilateral Meetings and Cooperation Discussions
In addition to participating in council sessions, the Uzbekistan delegation held productive meetings with UNESCO leadership. Discussions centered on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO, with a specific focus on collaborative efforts in organizing the 43rd General Conference in Samarkand.
During their visit to Paris, Uzbekistan officials met with key French officials, including Bertrand Buchwalter, adviser to the French President's Administration on Continental Europe, and Melanie Rosselet, adviser to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. Talks revolved around enhancing Uzbek-French cooperation across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on expanding trade and economic relations.
