“100 tons of gold are mined annually, but only 6% is processed in Uzbekistan” - President Shavkat Mirziyoyev

“100 tons of gold are mined annually, but only 6% is processed in Uzbekistan” - President Shavkat Mirziyoyev

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Namangan region on March 25, where he toured the Gavkhar Group enterprise in the Yangi-Namangan region, press service of the president reported.

The enterprise has the capacity to produce 1,200 kilograms of jewelry annually. The president highlighted Uzbekistan's rich jewelry heritage and the challenges faced by traditional artisans due to resource limitations. He acknowledged the impact of the May 18, 2019 Presidential Decree, which aimed to accelerate the jewelry industry's development by providing opportunities for purchasing scrap precious metals and stones, along with support for technology acquisition.

President Mirziyoyev praised the confidence instilled in jewelers by government initiatives, citing the Gavkhar Group as an example. The company, established in 2022, has diversified its product range and ventured into collaborations with foreign partners. It employs over 100 individuals, including youth, and engages in custom-made product production using 3D modeling. The president emphasized the importance of facilitating access to working capital for jewelry manufacturers.

"In our country, 100 tons of gold are mined annually. The sale of gold to entrepreneurs in installments is allowed. In fact, this opportunity does not exist in other countries. However, only 6 percent of our gold is processed. Non-gold producing countries export more jewelry than us. We are a little behind in this area. Therefore, we create additional conditions for production. And this is just the beginning. We will continue to develop this industry,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

President Mirziyoyev also engaged in discussions with Turkish business representatives to enhance legislative frameworks for the jewelry industry's growth. Additionally, he inspected the operations of the limited liability company Mekhmash, which specializes in screw and rolled paper production. The company has significant export potential and employs 700 individuals.

The president issued directives to increase production volumes and expand employment opportunities, particularly in the automotive industry's fastener segment.

Earlier Daryo reported that in January and February 2024, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover reached $9.2 bn, reflecting a notable year-on-year growth of 10.5%. Gold exports accounted for $1.3 bn of this total.
