Kazakhstan ranked 67th out of 193 countries and territories worldwide in the Very High Human Development category, as per the report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
After reaching a low of 0.672 in 1990, Kazakhstan's HDI score increased significantly to 0.802 in 2022—a 19.3% gain. The HDI, a thorough index that evaluates accomplishments in living conditions, health, and education, highlights Kazakhstan's steady advancement.
Kazakhstan experienced notable gains in all major indicators between 1990 and 2022. Expected years of schooling grew by 2.6 years, mean years of education climbed by 4.9 years, and life expectancy at birth increased by 4.6 years. Kazakhstan’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita surged by nearly 61.7% during the same period.
There are still gender differences despite general development. In 2022, women's living conditions, health, and education were measured by the Gender Development Index (GDI), which was 0.998 in 2022, slightly lower than men's. The differences in human development between different social groups are considered by the inequality-adjusted HDI (IHDI). The HDI is lowered by 8.5% in Kazakhstan due to inequality, highlighting the significance of inclusive development strategies.
Gender gaps in reproductive health, empowerment, labour market involvement, and social views are highlighted by the Gender Inequality Index (GII) and the Gender Social Norms Index (GSNI). Kazakhstan has a favourable GII score of 0.177, but there are still issues, especially when it comes to tackling social norms that have an impact on women's empowerment and gender equality.
The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) emphasises health, education, and standard of living inequalities in addition to income. The research highlights the need for comprehensive development for all social sectors in Kazakhstan and the necessity of addressing multifaceted poverty.
Finally, the Planetary Pressures-adjusted HDI (PHDI) emphasises how critical environmental sustainability is to the advancement of humankind. Protecting the well-being of future generations requires reducing global stresses while Kazakhstan pursues its growth goals.
