Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, convened a meeting with farmers from the Zhetisay and Maktaaral districts of the Turkestan region, where he unveiled plans for the construction of the Baidibek Ata reservoir, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported. The reservoir's construction is slated to commence before the end of the year.
Nurzhan Nurzhigitov also revealed intentions to establish a plant in the region in collaboration with the Uzbek company OMAD Start. This plant will specialize in the production and installation of cost-effective field irrigation systems, providing a boost to agricultural efficiency in the area. Shakhobiddin Karomov, the head of OMAD Start, confirmed this announcement during the meeting with the farmers.
Furthermore, the minister addressed several pertinent issues raised by the local farming community. These included concerns about the repair of the machine channel facilitating water flow from the Shardara reservoir to the Dostyk main canal, as well as plans for the reconstruction, concreting, and cleaning of irrigation canals in the region. Additionally, discussions centered on initiatives for the restoration of the Aral Sea, the expansion of the Irrigation and Drainage Improvement Project (IDIP-3), and the establishment of equitable water pricing mechanisms for individual channels.
Farmers took the opportunity to present suggestions for enhancing the operations of the state enterprise Kazvodkhoz and advocated for the return of strategically important assets to republican ownership.
Following the formal proceedings, Minister Nurzhigitov conducted a personal reception for citizens, addressing concerns ranging from the terms of agreements between farmers and Kazvodkhoz to the implementation of satellite technologies for water resource monitoring. The installation of pumps along irrigation canals by farmers was also discussed as a means of enhancing agricultural productivity.
Expressing his commitment to addressing the region's water management challenges, Minister Nurzhigitov emphasized the importance of effective communication between the ministry, Kazvodkhoz, and local authorities. He pledged to monitor the progress of irrigation works in the Turkestan region closely and announced plans to revisit the area after the commencement of the irrigation season.
"In the face of accumulated challenges, our ministry is dedicated to resolving issues step by step. Effective communication channels between relevant stakeholders are crucial in this endeavor. I extend my gratitude to all who participated in this meeting. I look forward to witnessing the advancements in irrigation works during my return visit to the Turkestan region after the irrigation season commences," concluded Minister Nurzhigitov.
