Silk Avia, an Uzbek regional airline, added a fourth aircraft to its fleet. The ATR 72−600 aircraft, which is the first to be received in new condition, made its journey from the French company’s plant in Toulouse, landing at Tashkent airport on February 16 at 15:00 (GMT+5), following a technical stopover in Istanbul. In the upcoming days, the Silk Avia livery will be applied to the aircraft, preparing it for its deployment on various routes.
In October 2022, Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the purchase of aircraft by Silk Avia. He further directed the provision of a $50 mn loan to facilitate this acquisition. The first three aircrafts, part of this expansion plan, arrived between March and April 2023.
Silk Avia initiated its commercial flights in April. Rano Juraeva, the former head of Uzbekistan Airports, outlined the operating principle of the carrier as an “air route” designed for budget flights.
