The Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, held a meeting on February 5 with Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tadweer, Abu Dhabi's largest waste management company to discuss reforms and initiatives implemented in Uzbekistan's waste management sector, the government portal of Uzbekistan reported.
The central focus of the meeting centered around the comprehensive reforms and initiatives that have been executed within Uzbekistan's waste management sector. Minister Abdukhakimov placed particular emphasis on the significance of the Decree on measures to improve the waste management system and reduce their negative impact on the environment.
This legislative measure was highlighted for its pivotal role in shaping the nation's overarching waste management strategy. Furthermore, the Minister underscored the strategic importance of the ongoing project, "Introduction of a complex waste management system," positioning it as a natural and crucial progression stemming from these broader reforms.
Minister Abdukhakimov stressed the necessity of reducing environmental pollution caused by waste and emphasized the importance of effective waste processing.
"The project implemented with 'Tadweer' offers wide opportunities in this regard. Through the disposal of solid household waste, we can reduce its volume and neutralize harmful chemicals. Simultaneously, by burning waste, we can produce alternative energy and extract secondary material resources," he stated.
Discussions during the meeting covered various aspects, including waste collection, the implementation of a monitoring system, and the production of green energy. The minister expressed his gratitude to the representatives of "Tadweer" for their collaborative efforts.
Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tadweer, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and outlined the next steps in the practical implementation of the project.
"Soon we will move on to the practical part of the project. First, we will study the activities of waste landfills and waste processing enterprises in the Navoi and Bukhara regions, reviewing the conditions. We are keen on ensuring our cooperation is effective in every way," stated Al-Dhaheri.
Following the meeting, the high-ranking guest was provided with an in-depth introduction to the Ministry of Ecology, the Central Department of Dispatching and Online Monitoring, and the Republican Center for the Organization of Sanitation Works.
The signing of the memorandum with "Tadweer" during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) held in Dubai marked a crucial stage of the project. The memorandum envisions the introduction of modern, innovative, environmentally friendly technologies and services in the waste management sector.
This project aims to reduce the placement of untreated waste in landfills, create new employment opportunities, and significantly curb the emission of greenhouse gasses and toxic organic substances into the atmosphere.
