Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok said at a press conference that the two countries intend to increase trade turnover to $5bn, Turkmenportal reports.
Mutual trade has tripled over the past four years and exceeded $2.5bn in 2023. However, the potential of economic ties is much greater, and Türkiye and Turkmenistan expect to increase trade turnover to $5bn in the near future.
The diplomat also stressed that in 2023, Turkish contractors carried out seven projects worth $3.2bn in Turkmenistan. In general, more than twenty projects worth $4.4bn are being implemented in the local market with their participation.
Türkiye is one of the largest trade partners of Turkmenistan. Some 600 Turkish companies operating in the fields of trade, construction, energy, transport, communications and textiles are registered in the local market.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Trade, the volume of construction projects carried out in the Central Asian country between 1972 and July 2023 exceeded $50.8bn.
Türkiye is actively lobbying for Turkmen gas to enter the European market.
Experts told Daryo that a 300km pipeline across the Caspian Sea could optimally connect Turkmenistan to the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), through which Azerbaijan already delivers its gas to Europe via Türkiye.
"This project could significantly increase the competitiveness of the SGC and contribute to the creation of a transnational gas hub in Thrace (Türkiye)".
