In recent control activities conducted by Uzenergoinspeksiya (Uzenergoinspection) in collaboration with law enforcement bodies and experts from electricity and gas supply enterprises in Uzbekistan, significant cases of illegal use of natural gas and electricity by consumers have been unearthed, Telegra.ph reported.
The control activities revealed a staggering 9,446 instances of consumers illegally tapping into natural gas and electricity supplies. Particularly alarming were the figures indicating the misappropriation of 767 mn cubic meters of natural gas, valued at UZS 748.6 bn approximately $60.3mn, and 335 mn kilowatt-hours of electricity, amounting to UZS 251.9 bn approximately $20.3mn. The cumulative damage to the state's interests amounted to a substantial UZS 1.05 trillion approximately $80.6mn.
In addition to identifying cases of illegal energy use, 2,134 instances of administrative violations were detected. These violations resulted in the collection of fines totaling 204 billion soums. The enforcement of penalties was facilitated through the "E-administrative case" information system, underscoring the government's commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability.
The Tashkent Central Control and Chemical Laboratory of the Inspectorate conducted quality control measures for oil products, revealing 2,823 thousand liters of substandard oil products in 171 cases at gas stations catering to private cars. Swift action was taken to prevent the sale of these inferior products, emphasizing the government's dedication to ensuring the quality and safety of oil supplies.
To address concerns related to methane gas stations, restrictions were imposed in Andijan, Surkhandarya regions, and Karakalpakstan. The primary objective is to guarantee the stability of natural gas supply to vital institutions, including the general population, hospitals, schools, and preschool education organizations.
Starting from December 12, adjustments were made to the working hours of gas stations. The new operating hours are from 06:00 to 12:00, aligning with the government's strategic measures to regulate and streamline the distribution of natural gas.
In the initial ten months of the current year, Uzbekistan experienced a reduction in natural gas production, marking a reported decline of 4.1 bn cubic meters compared to the corresponding period in the prior year, according to data from the national agency. The total extracted gas volume during this timeframe reached 38.9 bn cubic meters, down from the 43 bn cubic meters recorded in the same period of 2022.
Earlier Daryo reported that Uzbekistan has observed a significant rise in electricity generation, accompanied by strategic initiatives to manage natural gas demand. The report reveals that the nation produced 69.7 bn kWh of electricity in the initial eleven months of the current year, reflecting noteworthy growth of 3 bn kWh compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
