In a concerted effort to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon vehicles and enhance the public transport system, the project "Tashkent - Accelerating the Attraction of Investments in Low-Carbon Vehicles (TAILEV)" has unveiled the "Green City" transport corridor. The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Program's representative office in Uzbekistan, aims to transform the transportation landscape in the capital city.
The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan shared insights into this transformative project, highlighting its alignment with the presidential decree dated February 16, 2023, known as No. PP-59, titled "On Measures to Reform the Public Transport System." According to this decree, Tashkent envisions the establishment of 36 dedicated bus lanes covering a cumulative length of 475 km by 2025, ensuring continuous flow for public transport.
As part of TAILEV's support for this ambitious plan, a comprehensive approach has been adopted, involving the development of a concept design, mathematical model, and feasibility study for the envisioned "Green Transport Corridor," slated for implementation on Shota Rustaveli Street in the capital.
The statement from the Ministry of Transport underscores the inclusive nature of the project, with a focus on addressing the diverse needs of the population. The development process included a thorough study of the opinions of passengers, considering the specific requirements of individuals with disabilities, the elderly, children, and women in designing the public transport infrastructure.
The technical and economic aspects of the Green Transport Corridor project have been carefully assessed. The implementation is expected to yield tangible benefits, with a projected 11% increase in the average speed of vehicles along the corridor. Simultaneously, air pollution is anticipated to decrease by 12.3%, offering both environmental and efficiency gains.
