President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Ministry of Digital Technologies on December 20 to review the progress aligned with the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy, targeting the transformation of the country into a regional IT hub. The presentation at the Digital Governance Center highlighted advancements in digitalization, communication infrastructure, and IT education, president's press service reports.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has witnessed significant growth in the IT sector, marked by a surge in the number of companies from 147 in 2017 to 1600, and a tenfold increase in jobs, exceeding 24,000. Industry exports, reaching $600,000 in 2017, are projected to surpass $300mn by year-end.
The unified portal my.gov.uz serves over 8mn citizens with 570 online services, while the ijro.gov.uz system facilitates document flow in government bodies, handling 28mn documents. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the transformative impact of these systems on managerial responsibility.
Uzbekistan climbed 18 positions in the UN e-government ranking in 2022, securing the 69th spot. Ambitious plans are in place to enter the top 30 by 2030.
The Uzbekistan-2030 strategy aims to boost IT exports to $5bn. Measures include regional IT infrastructure development, fostering the venture capital market, supporting "local to global" enterprise exports, and creating favorable conditions, including tax benefits until 2040.
The President instructed the promotion of a unified national image, blending IT, tourism, and investment potential.
Education initiatives have seen the growth of over 300 IT training centers, with 1.2mn youth completing the One Million Programmers project. Starting next year, 5,000 talented individuals annually will be selected, educated, and prepared for the international job market, aligning with the "Successors of Al-Khorezmi" project in the Khorezm region.
Projects involving biometric identification, healthcare sector digitalization, electricity billing, and the IT Village in the Samarkand region were also presented. The President stressed the need for enhanced digital activities in social sectors, particularly healthcare, and called for the establishment of similar IT education complexes across all regions.
