Timur Kulibayev, son-in-law of former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, recently stepped down as the head of Kazenergy, an association of oil, gas, and energy sector organizations in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reported.
Leading Kazenergy since its establishment in November 2005, Kulibayev's departure was marked by the election of Magzum Mirzagaliyev, the head of KazMunayGaz, as the new chairman.
Kulibayev, a prominent Kazakh billionaire, is recognized for his role as the main shareholder of Halyk Bank, ranking as the second wealthiest individual in the country. His business portfolio extends to include ownership of "Kipros" and a partial share in Mercury Properties, overseeing a substantial 950,000 square meters of commercial real estate.
Following events in January 2022, Kulibayev, along with several members of the former president's family, underwent a restructuring of positions. Notably, he departed from the national chamber of entrepreneurs "Atameken" after eight years of leadership and resigned from the board of directors of Russia's "Gazprom," severing ties with the organization.
