In a step towards advancing Uzbekistan's digital transformation and sustainability goals, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been formalized between the Ministry of Digital Technologies, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, and DataVolt, a leading player in the development and operation of environmentally conscious data centers, Business Wire reported.
The MOU aims to establish state-of-the-art green data centers, aligning with Uzbekistan's vision of becoming a sustainable digital hub. The collaboration seeks to foster the digital evolution of the nation, promote innovative digital technologies, and attract foreign investment to bolster the IT sector.
DataVolt, a subsidiary of Vision Invest, a prominent Saudi Arabia-based development and investment holding company, will take charge of developing, investing, and operating these advanced data centers. The objective is to create the first fully renewable large data center campus in the region, potentially scaling up to several hundred megawatts. The emphasis will be on achieving high efficiency, integrating innovation, and implementing sustainable solutions.
In addition to infrastructure development, the collaborative effort aims to draw international technology companies to invest in Uzbekistan. The partnership will also focus on nurturing the skills and expertise of the local workforce to meet the demands of the evolving IT landscape.
Rajit Nanda, Chief Executive Officer of DataVolt, expressed enthusiasm about supporting Uzbekistan's digitization journey with innovative and sustainable solutions. Nanda emphasized the commitment to building data centers with the lowest carbon emissions, foreseeing a positive impact on the Uzbek economy and people. He believes that this initiative will position Uzbekistan as a digital leader in the region.
Highlighting the quality of Uzbekistan's outsourcing skills, the Ministry of Digital Technologies and DataVolt stressed the significance of cultivating the nation as an IT hub. Collaboration with Saudi companies is expected to play a vital role in this endeavor.
DataVolt, with a footprint in Riyadh, Dubai, and California, is positioned as a trusted partner in developing and operating future-ready, environmentally-conscious data centers. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vision Invest, the company is at the forefront of critical infrastructure projects globally, contributing to over $95bn worth of assets, including renewable power generation, seawater desalination, green hydrogen, cooling, water treatment, and reuse.
