Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov has received Turkmenistan's Ambassador Nury Golliev, the Kabar news agency (Kyrgyzstan) reports.
Zhaparov noted that Kyrgyz-Turkmen relations have reached a new level of strategic partnership. "At the same time, the parties need to take active measures to fully develop trade, economic, investment and production potential."
Golliev previously headed his country's consulate in Astrakhan, Russia.
In August 2021, Kyrgyzstan began buying electricity from Turkmenistan in transit through Uzbekistan and is now preparing a new contract.
Imports from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan also include supplies of petrol, aviation kerosene and textiles. Turkmenistan buys electrical equipment, agricultural products and foodstuffs from Kyrgyzstan.
The possibility of concluding a memorandum on the shipment of goods from Kyrgyzstan via the port of Turkmenbashi to Astrakhan is currently being discussed.
