Afruza Hamdamova has made history at the World Junior Chess Championship in Italy by becoming Uzbekistan's first female world champion in the under-14 category.
Her victory was secured in advance, as the only contender capable of catching up had already defeated a Kazakh opponent, in accordance with the competition rules.
This milestone achievement adds to Uzbekistan's chess legacy, previously marked by silver medals from Gulruhbegim Tahirjonova and Bahara Abdusattorova in their age categories. Afruza's win not only brings glory to Uzbekistan but also serves as inspiration for aspiring chess players, particularly young girls, in the country.
Before her, Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova and Bakhora Abdusattorova won silver medals in their age categories.
