The state agency "Turkmenaragatnashyk" (Turkmencommunication), together with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), has implemented a number of projects in the country to expand and modernise the networks of telecom operators for $273mn.
The head of the agency, Khajimurat Khudaygulyev, said this while speaking at the international conference "Turkmentel - 2023", Turkmenistan:Altyn Asyr news portal reports.
"Thanks to this, we have achieved 100% coverage of populated areas with high-speed Internet". The capabilities of the national communications satellite were also used for this purpose, he said. Today, the total number of Internet users in Turkmenistan is 3.1mn.
Eight interstate fibre-optic transmission lines have been installed in Turkmenistan. There are also plans to implement a project from Garabogaz and Etrek settlements to Teymir Baba (Kazakhstan) and Gombede Kovus (Iran), and along the Caspian Sea seabed to Azerbaijan.
