The Centre of "Turkmenhaly" Carpet Weaving has been inaugurated in Bukhara (Uzbekistan), the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reports.
The event coincided with an international conference on the subject and the opening of the National Museum of the History of Turkmen Carpets.
For many centuries, Bukhara has played the role of a major administrative, commercial, handicraft and cultural centre in Central Asia. According to the article, Turkmen carpets were also sold in the markets of this ancient city, and traders began to call them "Bukhara carpets".
"True connoisseurs immediately recognise Turkmen carpets by their quality, technique and clarity of pattern". Experts say their density reaches 1,000,000 knots per square metre.
Turkmen carpets are a parade of tribal styles, including Teke, Saryk, Yomut, Chovdur, Ersari and Beshir.
