The Ulyanovsk region in Russia is set to become a hub for the formation of container trains carrying agricultural products bound for Central Asia and the Middle East. Eurasian Agrologistics, a company under Russian Railways, recently signed a memorandum with the regional government to coordinate the establishment of agricultural hubs and the assembly of trains as part of the Agroexpress project.
Ruslan Gainetdinov, the head of the My Business regional center, expressed the project's concentration on these specific regions.
“We are focused on Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan. The latter is one of our strategic partners, because this is not only an agricultural direction, but also industrial products,” said Ruslan
General Director of Eurasian Agrologistics, Alevtina Kirillova, highlighted the potential benefits of using agricultural trains to transport goods. She noted that these trains operate on an accelerated schedule and are subject to special transit conditions that eliminate border delays. Kirillova also mentioned the creation of green customs veterinary corridors to ensure smooth transit of cargo along all routes of the corridor.
The Agroexpress project, which simplifies agricultural product exports, was initiated by Russia in 2019. Two years later, Uzbekistan joined the initiative, and a pilot project arrived in Tashkent. In February 2022, the prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries approved the joint project "Eurasian Agroexpress," aiming to supply agricultural products to countries outside the EAEU, including Uzbekistan.
In October, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Russia and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) entered into a cooperation agreement to support the implementation of Agroexpress. Concurrently, Russian Railways and Uzbekistan Railways signed a memorandum of cooperation, further solidifying the commitment to this collaborative effort.
