In a move towards fostering sustainable financing practices in Uzbekistan, Avesta Investment Group and AIFC Green Finance Centre (AIFC GFC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony, held in Tashkent, marked a pivotal moment in the development of green financing instruments and practices within the country.
This collaborative effort aims to leverage the expertise and resources of both organizations to promote green finance in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from Avesta Investment Group, AIFC Green Finance Centre, and key partners from the Astana International Exchange (AIX) and the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC).
Under the MoU, the two entities have committed to working together in several key areas, including:
- Mutual Promotion: Avesta Investment Group and AIFC GFC will jointly promote green financing initiatives at regional and international levels, emphasizing the importance of sustainable investments.
- Participation in Events: They will collaborate as speakers and partners in seminars, conferences, business forums, and other events aimed at spreading awareness of sustainable financing instruments in both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
- Project Collaboration: The parties will actively assist each other in identifying and pursuing mutually beneficial projects that support sustainability and green finance goals.
- Raising Awareness: Avesta Investment Group and AIFC GFC will work together to raise awareness about the potential of attracting green financing for both private and public companies in the region.
- Information Exchange: The organizations will facilitate the exchange of information concerning national and international efforts to promote sustainable financing practices.
Avesta Investment Group, founded in Tashkent in 2003, has established itself as a prominent investment company. It specializes in offering financial consulting services, arranging debt financing and equity investments, conducting mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, and providing market and company analysis. Avesta Investment Group's client base comprises foreign portfolio and strategic investors, as well as private and public companies in the region. Notably, since 2010, the company has been the exclusive partner in Uzbekistan of AuerbachGrayson, a New York-based brokerage firm with a presence in over 120 countries.
On the other hand, AIFC Green Finance Centre holds a leading position in verifying and assessing sustainable development projects in Central Asia. It operates under the legal framework of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and enjoys accreditation from the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and the Climate Bonds Initiative. The AIFC Green Finance Centre has played a pivotal role in verifying more than 60% of green bonds and loans in Kazakhstan, contributing to the growth of green finance in both Kazakhstan and the broader Central Asian region.
