The 2023 World Boxing Council Convention is set to be a dazzling boxing event taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from November 12 to 19. This year's convention promises to shine even more brightly with the presence of the supernova of boxing, Adonis Stevenson.
Adonis Stevenson's journey to becoming a boxing legend is one of resilience and transformation. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, he and his family later emigrated to Canada in pursuit of better opportunities. At the age of 14, Adonis found himself spiraling out of control, getting entangled with the law. However, his life took a pivotal turn during his time in prison.
While watching television one afternoon, Adonis refused to change the channel, leading to a confrontation with fellow inmates. By the time guards intervened, at least 10 inmates lay knocked out on the floor, with Adonis firmly glued to the TV. This incident planted the seed of his boxing career.
Upon his release in 2001, at the age of 24, Adonis made a promise to change his life's course and fully commit himself to the world of boxing. In 2006, he made his professional debut, and within a year, he became the Canadian champion. By 2013, he had risen to the pinnacle of the sport, becoming a world champion and securing a remarkable winning streak that included victories over Chad Dawson, Tavoris Cloud, Tony Bellew, Tommy Karency, and Andrzej Fonfara. However, a draw with Badou Jack and a loss to Oleksandr Gvozdik marked a turning point in his career.
In an exciting addition to this year's convention, Those Boxing Brothers, comprising pro boxers and influencers Luke Lupson and Jake Lupson, will be joining the event. With a combined following of over 500,000 on their social media platforms, Those Boxing Brothers bring a unique perspective to the sport. Their content covers various aspects of boxing, including training routines, insights from boxing legends, defensive techniques, running tips, mitt work, and discussions of controversial actions within the sport.
The World Boxing Council is proud to have Those Boxing Brothers as part of the Convention. They will be creating content alongside boxing icons like Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chávez, Antonio Tarver, Evander Holyfield, and Roberto Duran, making the 2023 WBC Convention a truly memorable gathering of the boxing community.
