Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan reports that plans are underway to establish direct flight routes connecting Georgia to Samarkand. In a meeting between Ilkhom Makhkamov, the head of the Ministry of Transport, and Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, discussions centered around enhancing transport and logistics cooperation between the two nations.
The Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Makhkamov, expressed his support for the proposal to initiate non-stop flights from Georgia to Samarkand. In response, the Georgian side has conveyed its willingness to assist Uzbek businesses in the development of ports and terminals in the Black Sea region.
Furthermore, they reached an agreement to boost the exchange of authorization forms for international transportation.
In 2022, the volume of export-import cargo transportation involving Uzbekistan through the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi amounted to 864,000 tons. This figure marked a 72% increase compared to the previous year's volume of 503,000 tons. Uzbekistan's future plans include the construction and long-term leasing of marine terminals and warehouses in Georgian seaports, as detailed in a memorandum signed in July during the visit of a government delegation led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.
