The next meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in the city of Ashgabat in May 2024, the CIS Executive Committee reports. This year's meeting was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting approved the Concept of Digital Transformation of the Fuel and Energy Sector of the CIS Member States and the Interstate Programme of Cooperation in Geodesy, Cartography and Earth Remote Sensing.
The participants of the meeting were also familiarised with the presentation on "Efficient Irrigation and Water Conservation in Central Asia". It was presented by Nikolay Podguzov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank.
Officially, Ashgabat decided in 2005 to join the CIS structure as an associate member, citing Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality. In 1999, Turkmenistan withdrew from the visa-free regime agreement with the CIS countries.
