The 16th meeting of the Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat on 1 November, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. This issue was discussed by Turkmenistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev during a videoconference with his counterparts from countries participating in the regional format.
Key areas such as transport and logistics, healthcare, environmental protection, education, science and tourism were identified as priorities for co-operation.
The Korea Fundation website said the Republic of Korea's trade volume with the five Central Asian countries has grown from $180mn in 1993 to $5.27bn in 2022, increasing at an average annual rate of 12.4%.
Experts told Daryo that Seoul is playing a key role in diversifying regional economies, including Turkmenistan's. Hyundai and LG have also helped develop the largest field, Galkynysh, which is one of the raw materials for a gas pipeline to China, on service terms.
