Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, held a meeting with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Tourism, Ahmed bin Aqil al-Khateeb, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the field of tourism and developing initiatives to promote both countries.
Aziz Abdukhakimov thanked Ahmed bin Aqil al-Khateeb for his participation in the 25th-anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly and congratulated Saudi Arabia on the successful World Tourism Day celebration. The recent international conference, "World Tourism Day 2023: Tourism and Green Investments," took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan's delegation participated in the event to showcase the country's tourism potential.
Saudi Arabia has played an important role in supporting Uzbekistan's initiatives in the UNWTO. Uzbekistan expressed its support for Saudi Arabia's candidacy to host the next UNWTO General Assembly session in 2026.
The ministers discussed the Action Plan of the Joint Memorandum for 2024-2025, which includes initiatives to strengthen ties between the two nations. These initiatives encompass organizing family trips for media representatives and travel bloggers, increasing the number of flights between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, and hosting a photo exhibition titled "Uzbekistan through the Eyes of Saudi Photographers."
In 2022, Uzbekistan saw a significant resurgence in the tourist flow from Saudi Arabia, with a 60% growth in tourist numbers. Both countries signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism with the aim of increasing the number of tourists to 100,000.
The initiatives discussed aim to attract media attention, improve travel opportunities, and create mutually beneficial ties that drive tourism growth and offer travelers unique experiences.
