Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Government of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakyуev met with Ambassador of Tajikistan Vafo Niyatbekzoda.
The paries discussed the prospects of bilateral co-operation in the transport and communications sphere, cargo transportation issues, as well as the establishment of air communication, Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Experts told Daryo that Ashgabat is linked to Dushanbe by a major project in this area.
Turkmenistan hopes to reach China and from there the Asia-Pacific region through the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway. Ashgabat has already extended railway lines to the Afghan border and has begun laying tracks at its own expense to the Afghan cities of Aqina and Herat.
A meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical co-operation is planned to be held in Tajikistan's capital this year.
