Some 200 facilities worth more than $10bn are currently under construction in Turkmenistan, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Assembly) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations in Berlin.
"The strategic course on industrial-innovative growth is ensured by redirecting more than 60% of the total volume of investments to the production sphere."
According to Berdimuhamedov, annual investment in the economy is 18-19% of gross domestic product (GDP), with foreign investment accounting for up to 12%. From January to August 2023, GDP growth was 6.2%.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) expect Turkmenistan's economy to grow by 6.5% in 2023, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts growth of 2.3%.
