Starting from September 11, 2023, vehicles registered in Russia, as indicated by state registration numbers, must leave Lithuania and the entire European Union within six months, Lithuanian Customs has reported.
Beginning September 11, Lithuanian customs authorities, based on checks related to the European Union's implementation of sanctions against Russia, will not allow vehicles registered in Russia to enter the country. As previously noted by the European Commission, these checks also extend to temporarily using these vehicles within Russia.
"This regulation applies to these transport vehicles regardless of their owner or driver's citizenship," emphasized the Lithuanian Customs website.
According to the information provided, an exception to this rule is made for vehicles registered in Russia and used by Russian citizens to transit through Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region. They must present an FTD transit document.
Additionally, the Lithuanian Customs warns against buying or importing vehicles labeled as "registered in Russia" or "manufactured in Russia." Violating the law can lead to fines and/or confiscation of the vehicle.
